‘Light meter’ sculpture. The piece was produced in Jon’s studio as part of his ‘experiments with light’ project.
The acrylic light meter sculpture was constructed to test how light behaved whilst passing through layers of acrylic. Jon tested it in natural light and used it to record levels of light. The sculpture helped Jon to understand how different sheet spacing effected colour & transparency of an object. For my edge-lit lighting sculptures it was important to give them solidity. I wanted each design to have the same presence as a solid object. And by stacking multiple sheets I managed to recreate this aesthetic. Solidity is achieved by spacing sheets at a 90 degree angle on the outside of the sculpture.
